  • VoIP or Voice over IP (Voice over Internet Protocol)

Voice over Internet Protocol is often seen as, and can be, a 'something for nothing' technology. It can run over existing IP connections in places - your internal network, external connections and the Internet.

Can it offer huge savings? Yes. If you're a major corporate with substantial bandwidth available for data transfer at night between major international sites and substantial telephone calls running between these sites (or countries) by day, you should be utilising VOIP now. If you conduct a substantial amount of your business with overseas branches, partners or suppliers, VoIP to these sites could be highly effective. If there are sites within your group that carry substantial volumes of telephone calls between each other on a regular basis, VoIP can be highly cost-efficient.

If you're not in this situation, we can help you evaluate your need for VoIP. If you've substantial inter-site telephony and data links VoIP could be an excellent solution. The key factor in any VoIP implementation is the recovery of VoIP equipment costs - this needs to be set against call costs. In some situations a group-wide managed call cost VOIPpackage can provide a far better solution. New telephone systems can usually be amortized within 2 years of a 5-7 year life on call/line cost savings alone, whether using VoIP or more traditional solutions.

    VoIP offers much more

VoIP offers the opportunity to integrate IT and telephone systems. It creates the facility, for example, to outsource your call centre telephony and systems to a resilient hosting centre, or to run centralised telephony services anywhere on a networked system. Applications can be set to 'pop' a customer's account or sales record as they call or automatically dial outgoing sales calls - typically improving effectiveness by 10%.). Integration ( e.g. with Microsoft CRM, Goldmine, Sage, ERP systems etc) becomes easier. VoIP also affords much better disaster recovery options and integration with unified messaging.
